3 tips - Taylour Etter
All first-time distance education students should be given a clear statement of course requirements in advance. This should include:
(1) all course requirements
(2) the weekly time
commitment and specific computer skills required by the course
(3) a presentation of the practical difficulties of working at a distance and what is needed to manage those challenges successfully. This information must be provided either in written form or through a same-time same-place video or Internet-based orientation program.
Distance education students should be given access to all possible electronic research material. Students must be shown how to connect with online articles, books and catalogues at the college
library or cooperating libraries. Students should be given the names, e-mail addresses and phone
numbers of librarians trained to handle electronic requests for materials.
For any course requiring independent research, as long as it is feasible, distance education students should be expected to visit a campus or public library at least onceto confer with professional librarians and employ the variety of informational materials and professional resources available there.
