Instructional Design Strategies:
The constructivist instructional model is the model that will be used for the lesson. The design of this lesson allows the learner to explore on their own, through the use of the ladybug/maze applet and create their own ideas about navigating the ladybug to be shared with others. Elements of the Learning by Design method and cooperative learning will be the path used to drive this lesson. Some of the components of Learning by Design includes experimentation, exploration, reflection, and tasks. These components will allow the learner to build. The objectives of the lesson allows the learner to experiment and explore through the use of the programming elements of the ladybug. Partners will work together cooperatively to test each other’s programming.
Open-ended, high-order thinking questions will be used to help engage adult learners and encourage discussion. The content is organized in this manner to help encourage interest in the topic, provide exploration of a new application, and the ability for learners to share their discoveries. Breakout groups will be used in the lesson so that the participants can meet to communicate and test each other’s programming. Being able to demonstrate programming, self-assess as they work through the lesson and reflect on their strategies are assessment strategies that will be used.
