Instructional Design Strategies - Gastrich

Description of Instructional Design Strategies

The main instructional strategy in my lesson is problem-based learning. Because students will need to figure out what classes to take in future quarters, having students use their own knowledge schemas in the lesson is representative of what they will have to do in future quarters. In order to assess their knowledge, students will be asked to use their new knowledge of the Warren requirements to find classes for a fictional student. Students will work together to determine what classes the student should enroll in during his/her first quarter. By working together, students will share their own knowledge and interpretation of the material, thus building stronger understanding of the material. Using a problem-based instructional strategy is appropriate for this audience since it mirrors the real-life situations students will face while choosing and enrolling in classes. The content is organized in a way that allows students to be introduced to the material, given guidelines and hints to help them, and then gives them the chance to apply the knowledge they have just learned to a real-life situation.
