Jared Frisby - Instructional Design Strategies
My presentation will be on recording podcast interviews at a distance.
What type of questioning methods are you using and why are those appropriate for this content and audience?
I'm using problem-based learning, so most questions will be open-ended to get participants to take part in building a solution. It's appropriate for this audience because this is a problem that many distance educators face. Due to improvements in technology, nearly everyone has a breadth of solutions available. This project will help participants recognize the benefits of these solutions and, working together in the lesson, find ways to implement them into distance learning.
Why did you organize the content this way?
This method of organization helps to clearly identify the problem and step through a solution, and it also allows participants to come up with solutions that works in their individual situations.
What is the purpose of the collaborative aspects of your lesson?
Some participants may have some experience in this area, while others may not. The collaborative elements of this lesson allow everyone to share ideas, questions, and lessons learned.
Did you use any role-play or break-out groups and why did you use those for that particular topic?
I have not planned any break-out groups because of the uncertainty of the number of participants. I have planned a role-play segment for the interview recording. This segment will involve one class member pretending to be interviewed at a distance, while I record this short interview via iChat. This recording will be the basis of the next segment of the demonstration.
What type of assessment strategies did you implement and why?
The assessments involved in this lesson are intended to generate discussion surrounding possible solutions and ways to implement them into distance learning.
Did you use any real-world scenarios or problem-based learning and what was the purpose of those strategies relative to the content and audience?
The introduction to this lesson covers a real-world scenario that I face on a regular basis. As distance educators, many of the students in the Ed Tec program will face similar scenarios in our professions. Learning some best practices and possible solutions to the problem could be very helpful.
