Instructional Design Strategies

Polling- I will use the polling strategy to measure the importance of living a green lifestyle within the group. I want the students to see how other students feel about the subject. I also want to use polling to ask various questions to measure knowledge level of the subject and its content.

Discussion- This is a very important part of the session, as I want students to be able to interact and share with the instructor and their fellow classmates. Discussion can help students become more involved in the lesson, and it can also help to branch out and build on the topics we are discussing. I think this strategy is important for my session because this is a topic that involves all of society, and sharing and feeding off of each other can only benefit everyone in the classroom.

Lecture- The most used strategy in my lesson in lecture. I am using a power point presentation, which I think is effective because it will include all the needed information for the course. I will use short bullet point presentations so that the information is easily understood and straightforward and will help students grasp the concepts I am presenting.

Whiteboard- I will allow use of the whiteboard for students to record notes and possibly carry on conversation with fellow students and the instructor.

Real World Scenarios- Throughout the lesson I will be applying the tips and information to real world scenarios in which the students can relate to. The overall goal of the class is for students to be able to take what they have learned into the real world, so the more straightforward and easy the students think it is the more successful they will be.

Why did you organize the content this way?
I organized the content this way because I wanted to introduce students to the larger concept before breaking it down into smaller segments. I thought moving from the home to personal life was a good flow before telling the students about the assignment that needs to be completed for the next class.

What type of assessment strategies did you implement and why?

Polls will be used to assess the learner’s absorption of the content. This will ensure key points are highlighted and reinforced in an anonymous and interactive way.

Did you use any real-world scenarios or problem-based learning and what was the purpose of those strategies relative to the content and audience?
I used many real world scenarios in order for students to relate the material they are learning to their own lives. After each segment students will view a map of a different room in the house. Students will look at a bedroom and kitchen and will be asked to list the tips and tricks they learned in the lesson in order to see how much they have retained.
