Living a “green lifestyle” has become a common concept in today’s society. Studies show that most Americans recognize the environmental crisis and they're concerned about it, but don’t know what they can do to make a difference. Throughout this session students will gain a well-rounded understanding of what living a green lifestyle means. Learners will discover the various areas in their lives that they can make “green” related changes, and what strategies will help them to get there. Students will explore their homes and personal life and apply what they have learned to their everyday lives.
Objectives
•After completing the first session students will be able to identify different areas in their home and personal life that can be made greener.
•They will recognize the importance of making these small changes, and learn the easy tips and tricks in order to make them successful
•Students will be able to apply what they have learned at home in their everyday lives.
Segment 1- In this segment students will learn what “Living Green” truly means. I will ask students what they think it means to them and the various ways society looks at it. I will present the many categories in which a greener lifestyle can be applied, and conceptualize the importance of going green for not only our personal futures but for our earth.
Segment 2- In this segment we will explore the home and the different ways in which students can go green. We will explore different areas in the home (kitchen, bathroom, laundry room) and indicate the small changes that can be made. I will present easy tips and tricks to make these changes and show students the impact in which they will have environmentally and financially.
Segment 3- In this segment we will explore personal ways in which students can go green. This will include grooming, shopping, and transportation. I will teach students what easy changes can be made when it comes to these areas of life. I will ask students if they have any tips to share, and show them the environment impact as well as financial.
Segment 4- In this segment I will explain the homework assignment. I will ask students to record the different tips they have used over a weeks time in their daily lives. I will also ask for the level of importance and how easy/hard they thought it was to complete.
